This is the second of two central stories in the Old Testament. God continuously warned his people that he would “kick them out of the house” (so to speak) if they didn’t change their ways. They didn’t. He did. “The Exile” is Israel’s fall from prosperity. She became internally divided then tragically scattered throughout the area. She was wounded, uncertain – and in desperate need of the Messiah.
