What's your favorite memory at Mountain Park and why?
I have two favorites, actuallly. The first is my very first visit to MPCC in 2001. We had just moved here and my mom was visiting, so she and I had decided to go to church. There was a guest worship leader that day, a petite blonde woman with a powerful voice whose name I can't recall, but she was also giving a concert that evening. After service, I bought tickets to the concert and Gregg and I returned that evening (he was kind of disgruntled that I bought tickets without asking him and dragged him to church on a Sunday evening, but don't tell him I told you that). Both of us thoroughly enjoyed the music and the worship. MPCC has been our church home ever since. The second favorite memory is the welcome meeting we went to about a year later where each pastor was present and about 20 other people. It was at the end of that meeting that I accepted Christ into my heart.
How many times have you hurt yourself or someone else in karate?
Only one time I can recall hurting someone else (if you don't count practicing at home with Gregg). I accidentally kicked my sparring partner right where he did not want to be kicked and doubled him over. Getting hurt myself, I've had lots and lots of bruises, but the worst was in February this year which thus far has ended my karate career. During a drill, I was jumping over a young man who was in push-up position. He didn't lower himself far enough and I didn't jump high enough to clear him and I tripped. I landed on my right shoulder with all my forward momentum and weight, fracturing the tuberosity in two places (upper part of the arm where it meets the rotator cuff).
What's your favorite martial arts movie ever and why?
Definitely would have to be Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story. What a guy! I also like most of the Jackie Chan movies because of his unique and clever moves. He's kind of the Fred Astair of karate movies.
