Children’s Large Group Director

Mountain Park Church (MPC) is a thriving church with an average attendance of 1800 in beautiful Ahwatukee, an affluent area within sunny Phoenix, Arizona. Starting as a church plant about 30 years ago, MPC has continued to expand its reach and recently built a new facility. The local community features excellent schools, abundant sports and outdoor activities, beautiful desert surroundings, and a health-conscious culture. Mountain Park is voluntarily affiliated with the Church of God (Anderson). The mission of Mountain Park Church is to invite the distracted and the disinterested to realize their role in God’s story. In pursuit of this mission, we are equally committed to reaching the unbelieving with the love and truth of Jesus and cultivating spiritual growth and maturity in his followers. Our ministry with children fulfills this mission by a) creating opportunities for children to experience the love and truth of Jesus, b) encouraging and equipping their parents to be spiritual leaders, and c) raising up volunteers to do the work of the ministry.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Children’s Large Group Director helps Mountain Park fulfill this mission by developing and directing large group experiences for weekly services and special events that provide children with the opportunity to know, love, and follow Jesus. This includes 1) developing and directing large group experiences with creativity and excellence, 2) developing and directing volunteers and teams, and 3) assisting with coordinating children’s involvement in the main services on special occasions. Weekly services include Sunday mornings during all services with separate programs and environments for preschool and elementary children. Special events include Best Week Ever (day camp for children) in early June & Christmas ADVENTure in early December.

The ideal candidate for this role will be someone who maintains a personal, growing relationship with Jesus Christ, and sets an example for those we serve. They will align with the mission and beliefs of Mountain Park Church and be a team player that can collaborate well with staff and volunteers. They will have a vibrant and engaging stage presence, and the ability to capture and maintain the attention of children and command the room. They will have a natural ability to generate creativity and ideas and the aptitude to learn and manage the basic technical aspects of stage production (audio, visual, lighting). They will have the ability to learn and effectively utilize specialized software for planning and production. And, they’ll be fully capable ofrecruiting, rehearsing, training, and managing teams of children and adult volunteers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Develop and Direct Large Group Experiences
  • Develop the Large Group Experience with Creativity and Excellence
    • As directed by the CM Director and in collaboration with volunteers for creativity and execution
    • Using scripts and activities provided by our curriculum (Orange 252Kids and First Look), third party publishers, or custom written as needed and requested/approved by CM Director
    • Designing creative sets, environments, and production plans (audio, visual, lighting) for each month’s theme
    • Planning services and tech scripts (for audio, visual, and lighting cues) using Planning Center Online
    • Building projection plans with ProPresenter
    • Communicate plans with all necessary volunteers and parents

  • Direct the Large Group Experience with Engaging Leadership and Joy by providing
    • Live vocal leadership (singing) yourself or through another fully capable volunteer who can sing well, engage children, and command the room
    • A team of children who model each song’s actions and choreography
    • Volunteer Hosts who are rehearsed, engaging, and can command the room
    • Volunteer Storytellers who are rehearsed in the script, creative, and engaging
    • Volunteer Puppet Team for preschool storytelling

    Direct the Large Group Experience with Engaging Leadership and Joy by providing
  • Leading music & worship with engaging leadership and joy with
    • A children’s worship team
    • Additional Worship leaders
    • Occasional children’s choir

  • Hosting the service and telling the story with creativity and excellence with
    • Hosts
    • Storytellers
    • Puppeteers

  • Setting the stage for and producing the large group experience with creativity and precision through
    • Set Design and Construction
    • Audio, Video, and Lighting

    Collaborate with Worship Arts on Special Occasions
  • Coordinating children’s involvement in the main worship services for special occasions.
  • Auditioning children for, rehearsing, and producing children’s choir for special occasions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience
  • Education
    • High School Diploma or equivalent required
    • Associate’s degree in related field preferred

  • Essential Experience

    • 2+ years of relevant ministry experience (worship and/or ministries with children)
    • Proven experience recruiting and leading volunteers

  • Preferred Experience

    • In music and theatre (singing, acting, directing, stage management, design, etc.)
    • In building and managing effective teams
    • In managing audio, video, and lighting
  • Some flexibility in scheduling is needed and will include evenings and weekends
  • Sundays are required
