What We Believe
Our beliefs represent the heart of Mountain Park Church. These truths are the very core of who we are and everything we do should flow from them. They are not merely ideas to be understood, but truths to be lived out under the leadership and empowerment of the Holy Spirit.
So as a church, we find creative ways to reach people with the Gospel of Jesus. We provide exciting programs for kids, students, and adults. We build relationships with our friends, family, and neighbors and share our transformation story. We preach and study God's Word. We utilize the arts to tell the story of the Gospel. We share meals, friendship, and prayers with the homeless in our community. We partner with organizations across the street and around the world that are introducing lost people to Jesus. We do all these things and more to introduce people to the One who transforms.
We believe there is only one God, the Creator and Ruler of all, who exists eternally as a Trinity of three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Each member of the Trinity is fully God, and each is personally distinct from the other.

We believe God the Father (first person of the Trinity) is perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, sovereignty, and love. Infinite and personal, the Father cares deeply for each person and is actively involved in our world so that every person may know and trust Him.

We believe Jesus Christ (second person of the Trinity) is the eternal Son of God, the visible image of the invisible God, who became a man and subjected himself to the trials and temptations of humanity. He lived in perfect obedience to the Father, teaching what the Father told him to teach and performing miracles as a testimony to his divinity. In selfless love, he voluntarily paid the price for the sins of all people by dying on the cross as their substitute. After his physical death, Jesus Christ rose from the dead, ascended into heaven, and now sits at the right hand of the Father as the only mediator between God and humans. Someday he will return to earth, personally and visibly, to conclude history and fulfill God’s plan.

We believe the Holy Spirit (third person of the Trinity) comes to live within a person who puts their trust in Jesus. The Holy Spirit empowers us to live as God wants us to live and gives us spiritual gifts to serve the church and change the world. The Holy Spirit is actively at work convicting hearts and drawing people to God.

We believe the Bible (both Old and New Testaments) is the Word of God. Written by men who were inspired by the Holy Spirit to write down what God wanted to communicate to us, it is both the loving expression of God’s will for our lives and the timeless, authoritative, infallible rule of faith and practice.

We believe men and women were created by God to live in relationship with God, but that they rebelled by going their own way and thereby introduced sin into the world. Like a virus, sin has spread to all humans, alienating us from God, distorting our view of good and evil, and causing pain and suffering.

We believe Jesus Christ died on the cross as punishment for our sins and that those who believe in Jesus are saved from both the authority and eternal consequences of sin. It is only through faith in Jesus Christ, not by being a good person or doing good deeds, that a person can be restored to a right relationship with God. Those who trust in Jesus will spend eternity with him while those who reject him will suffer the consequences of their sins, separated from his love and mercy.

We believe the Church is neither a building nor an organization, but a community of Christ- followers that is mobilized to make disciples and radically impact the world for God. Jesus is the head of the Church and all who acknowledge him as Savior and Lord are members. As one expression of the Body of Christ, those in a local church belong to one another, take care of one another, and use their time, talents and treasures to serve each other and the world. Scripture commands believers to gather regularly for worship, prayer, fellowship, the teaching of the Word, and to practice Baptism and Communion. Every local church should do its part to represent Jesus in the context and community in which it is located.

We rely on the Bible as the foundation for all matters of faith and practice. By adhering to God’s Word and seeking God, we can best observe his greatest commandments, which are to love God and love others. MPC cannot bind the conscience of individual members in areas where the Bible is silent or unclear. Rather, each believer is to be led in these areas by the Lord, to whom he or she alone is ultimately responsible.
